Our best experience in Costa Rica goes to Diego, Oscar and Dean from

"Rent a 4x4 in Costa Rica".  Diego waited at the airport for us over 2 hrs as our flight was delayed. He then drove us to Grecia where we needed to be. We would never have gotten there by ourselves. Then he even helped us select a hotel and negotiated down the price. How is that for service? He also gave us a cell phone fully charged and ready.

They gave us all kinds of tips and information about the area.

 

A few days later we called Diego again asking him if he could take us back to San Jose.

He was not available, but called Oscar, another employee, and Oscar drove us back

to San Jose even though his work day was over.

 

Both Diego and Oscar spoke highly of the company and how proud they were to work

with the team.  To top it off, Dean gave us a discount for the days we didn't use, since we returned earlier to North Carolina.

 

Our 4x4 tires were new as well as the brakes. You definitely need those in Costa Rica.....

Our thanks to the 4x4 team.  My comments are being made "con gusto" (with pleasure).

 

I am absolutely speechless at the level of your customer service at 4x4. Words hardly express our appreciation.  Their services were almost surreal!

"The cell phone worked great and turned out to be very useful. I
would say it is a virtual necessity for independent travelers in Costa Rica
to have one. The unlimited minutes you offer are a real bargain that would
be hard to find (in fact impossible as far as I know) with other rental
agencies. For example Toyota rents a cell phone for a similar rate, but
has a big charge per minute on top of that. Your international calling card
worked perfectly too, and again is so much cheaper than the alternatives
available. It is easy to rack up $35 in just a few minutes with some of the
other international calling options. Finally, Diego's service at the airport
was prompt, courteous and efficient"

The Tracker worked out very well.  We needed the ground clearance to follow the realtors into some of the property, homes and condos they showed us.  It is perfect for getting around potholes on narrow roads. 

 

Renting from you and avoiding the hassle of standing in lines at the airport is another real plus.  I much prefer having the vehicle delivered to the hotel, rather than driving out of the airport behind other tourists who have no idea where they are going.  Also having a cell phone with your long distance calling card, with the 4x4,  is another real plus and stress reducer.

"... we've been traveling through Costa Rica now for almost 2 weeks in one of Dean's 4x4 GEO Trackers. "Knock on wood" it's been just fine. 

... we'd been in a tracker before and knew it for what it is and is not. Luxury it's not, reliable and economical it is.

At the risk of sounding like one of Dean's relatives, I must add. When we got to Guanacaste, I was disappointed with GSM cell phone coverage. I contacted them in the evening and they delivered me a TDMA Cell Phone the next day. I expected they'd want the GSM phone back. But was pleasantly surprised when they offered to let me keep both at no extra charge. I doubt Avis or Budget would do the same.

Another point you may want to consider. When you're riding around in one of these Tracker you look like a local, not a bad thing when in a foreign land {safety}. Try pulling that off in a late model Lexus.
 
Would we buy a GEO Tracker? no... Rent one {4x4 GEO Tracker} to putz around for a month at a bargain rate, sure."

I could not have been more pleased with my experience with Dean and Diego.  Everything worked just as they promised.  If you want to call back to the states, be sure to listen carefully when Diego explains how to dial long distance using the long distance card (we purchased one for $20, but never used much time). 
 
It is a very secure feeling to have a cell phone in a strange country.
 
Unfortunately, I left my digital camera in the Tracker when we left.  I called Dean when I got home and he said not to worry, they would find it and mail it to me.  It arrived yesterday in perfect shape with all my beautiful pictures.  I am recommending him to all my colleagues at the University who are planning to visit Costa.

I went to Costa Rica on a business trip, exploring areas of the country for real estate opportunities.  I saw the ad for
"Rent a 4X4 in Costa Rica" in the AM Costa Rica newspaper and went to the web site for more information.  It appeared to be a valid operation, so I made a reservation and hoped for the best.
 
My experience with your company and your staff was excellent.  You met me with the car at my hotel in San Jose at the exact pre-arranged time.  The car, a late model 4x4 GEO Tracker, was clean and had a full tank of gas.  They gave me a short orientation about the car, licensing, emergency procedures and the option of enjoying driving without the canvas top.  Over the next ten days I traveled along the Pacific coast and in the Central Valley.  The roads are challenging, at best, in many of those areas, but the GEO managed very well and was fun to drive.  At the completion of my trip, we arranged the return of the vehicle and, again, everything worked according to plan.
 
I expect to make more trips to Costa Rica in the future and will look forward to enjoying your services again!

Thank you for getting us the Tracker at the airport for pick-up and the ease of drop-off really reduced the anxiety of airport departure. Your low cost rental made it possible to have a vehicle for our entire stay (35 days) in Costa Rica. Without your rental our budget would not have allowed for any other 4x4 rental vehicle for the entire stay and our mobility would have been drastically reduced. My list of companies and people with whom I enjoy doing business is getting shorter each year.  Among those still in the running are one delivery company and one office supply company because they give consistently good, honest service and because their employees are always enthusiastic and respectful.


Topping my list is Dean Krieg with his car and phone rental company in Costa Rica. To sum up my thoughts about Dean I would use the two words "integrity" and "respect". These twin traits seem to have almost died out in the business world of today. Dean learned them in his youth, and he will never fail to exhibit them in present and future businesses.  Dean cares about people.

The people I know that have rented from Dean, for the most part, have been happy. If there have been problems, they were taken care of promptly, and in most cases, refunds were given.

Personally, I would not want to own a business such as this seeing the horrendous conditions that the roads are generally in {in Costa Rica}. I cannot understand how the business can make money at these rates. I also know people who have had terrible experiences with Thrifty, Economy and numerous other agencies here. In fact, when I tried to rent a car from Thrifty two weeks ago, they asked me for a $1500 deposit. Those of you who know me can guess what my response was.
